Made in Cherry Quilt is Finished!

Quilting:

I'm excited I have finally managed to get my Made in Cherry quilt finished and I just love it!

This was my first quilt along - which I started back here and here ....mmm I must work on actually sticking to the quilt along steps next time I join to keep the momentum.

But I'm mostly just ecstatic to finish a quilt and am not so worried about the 'how' or 'how long'...

I machine quilted this quilt as I want to use it in the living room for every day use. I quilted across each square and then did some basic sewing around the outside to reflect the star outline in the grey background.

I generally like to use what I have in the cupboard for quilt backings. Nice and simple and great way to use up some more of my stash!

I'm so in love with this quilt and I'm pleased to say that apart from the buying the wadding and the binding I used only fabrics I already had.

Right - now back to a little more hand quilting - but first here are a few 'action' shots which will explain why I always use the clothes line to show my finished quilts! - for some reason (read 'my two year old - Thom') they just won't stay flat on the bed!

Made in Cherry Quilt Progress

Quilting:

It's been a few weeks now since I joined the Made in Cherry Quilt Along hosted by Chelsea at Pins and Bobbins. I had all my little 3" squares lovingly laid out on the spare bed but then my mum came to stay - and while she loves quilting as much as I do, I don't think she would have appreciated the mess! So it was all packed away in the cupboard.

But this weekend I pulled them all out again and managed to get the quilt top sewn together. I used a dark charcoal grey for the background and I love how it makes the blues and greens 'pop'.

I have certainly been spurred on my admiring all the other Made in Cherry Quilts that have been popping up on flickr... I have so many favourites I'm not sure where to start - but take a look yourself - there are plenty to ogle!

Better get back to it...

Made in Cherry Quilt Along!

Quilting:

Well I'm excited to say that this week I've joined my first quilt along!!! Its being hosted by Chelsea over at Pins and Bobbins - and even though I'm a little late to join I'm starting with gusto!

I thought this might be a perfect solution to try and reduce my scrap basket a bit (seeing I can't actually close the lid on it at the moment :0 )

So I have pulled out all my blues and greens and cut up the million odd squares I need to make this quilt and I've even had a go at starting to lay them out - although our spare bed doesn't want to fit them all on...

I've chosen to cut my squares at the 3" size - pretty much because it helped me use up some of my smaller scraps - so my finished quilt will be a little smaller than the options shown in the quilt along.

Well - I better get back to it - I need to catch up big time on this one!

PS - if you want to see what all the others are making - have a look on the flickr group - it's so inspiring!
