Blue Hexagon Quilt

I have been working on this quilt since 2007 - I know - a long time - in that time I have got married, had a little boy and moved interstate and so much has been hectic - plus hand quilting this one has meant I'm not keen to do anything on it over the hot summer months here in Queensland.

But now that the weather has started to cool off a little again I pulled it out a few weeks ago and have been working feverishly on it so I could show you! I have a bit more to go but I'm really getting so close now!

I love how it's looking - the little 'stars' in each hexagon really give the quilt a great texture and I LOVE looking at all the blues  - I can't wait to snuggle up on the couch with this one!!!!

Flower Garden Baby Quilt

The Finished Quilt
I’m right into working through my basket, I mean ugly plastic box of unfinished projects at the long it lasts who knows, but I'm trying to make the most of it while I can.

I started this quilt late last year with no other desire than to make something girly and while it’s certainly not as much fun as starting a new project, I do enjoy the satisfaction of finishing something!

My aim was just to try and use fabric I already had in my "stash" and make a quilt to throw over yourself when you're lying on the couch.

Unfortunately I ran out of the background white spot fabric pretty quickly which meant I had to scale back my dreams and turn it into a baby/cot quilt.

Pearl cotton quilting in pink, lemon and white

More quilting
There is no current purpose for this quilt - we do have good friends having a bub in the coming months and I'm hoping it’s a girl so I can give them this!

I loved making this quilt - as simple as it was, I think I might have to pull out all my pretty fabrics and make another one soon!

I hand quilted this quilt using pearl cotton in pastel pink and lemon and white in the floral squares and around the borders.

For the binding I had wanted to use a pretty pink and white stripe that I had, but when I cut it up to make the binding I was short by about 20cms!!! (hate that!)

I ended up finding some yellow floral which I really love, so it worked out well in the end.
